James Emory Clymer

     James Emory Clymer was born in 1800 at Queen Anne County, Maryland.
     James Emory Clymer ??he would have been 8 years old, if the following notes applied to him. James Emory moved from Maryland to Kentucky at an early age and acquired several hundred acres of land.

The exact date is not know, but around 1808, James Emory Clymer built the first Round Top Barn, which stood on the old Lexington and Nashville road, about one mile east of the village LeGrand. Built in an octagon shape with a point at the top of the roof, the barn appeared to have a round top, which is where it got its name. The building was three stories high and included a basement, which was used to keep the stock; a main floor, which was used to spread the grain; and the third floor was used to store the grain.

The Round Top Barn that James Emory built is no longer standing. Sometime arond 1850, the land which held the barn ended up in the hands of John R. Smith from Virginia. Sometime after, part of the land was used so that the new road could be built. A man named William Toms also acquired part of the Clymer land and donated two acres so that a school, known as Jefferson Seminary, could be built.

James Emory may have been buried at the Horse Cave Cemetery, Horse Cave, Kentucky.
