Relationship=8th great-grandfather of Pamela Jean Larremore.
Captain Anthony Austin was born in 1635 at Bishopstoke, Hampshire, England, son of Richard Austin and Elizabeth (?).
Captain Anthony Austin emigrated circa 1638 from England to the U.S. with his parents when Anthony was only 3. His father, Richard, died before the end of 1638 and his mother, Elizabeth, was left to raise Anthony and his brother Richard by herself in the new world.
Captain Anthony Austin married Esther Huggins , daughter of John Huggins and Bridget Green, Anthony and Esther were married on 19 October 1664 at Rowley, Essex County, Massachusetts.
Anthony and Esther were one of the original settlers of Suffield, Massachusets (which became Connecticut in 1749). In 1674, they were granted 50 prime acres next to Major Pynchos.
The 30 families listed below are the families the Suffield Historical Society reports actually settled and stayed in Suffield:
Edward Allen, Anthony Austin, John Burbank, Edward Burleson, Thomas Copley, Launcelot Granger, Timothy Hale, Walter Halladay, Thomas Hanchett, John Harmon, Thomas Huxley, Samuel Kent, James King, Samuel Lane, Edmund Marshall, George Norton, Robert Old, Timothy Palmer, William Pritchard, Thomas Remington, John Rising, Hugh Roe, Victory Sikes, Thomas Smith, Jonathan Taylor, Stephen Taylor, Michael Towsley, John Warner, Robert Winchell, and Robert Woolworth.
Due to King Phillips War in 1675, all land grants were suspended and the area temporarily abandoned. The settlers buried their belongings in the ground or in wells and vacated to Springfield. Everything in the town was burned to the ground by the Indians. In the spring of 1677, the residents returned and rebuilt their town.
Captain Anthony Austin Anthony lead a very full and busy life. He was the first of a long line of Indian fighters. He was promoted to Lieutenant in 1681 and Captain in 1697. In 1682 Suffield elected a body of five Select Men to take over town responsibilities. This would be the equivalent of a City Council today. A Lieutenant at the time, Anthony was elected the town clerk or recorder. He held the position for 27 years. In 1688 he was elected Commissioner and Town Assessor, and was so until his death in 1694. He also became the schoolmaster of Suffield's first free school. He enjoyed helping to shape the new minds for the new world. It could prove interesting to research the other 29 families of Suffield to see how many of those minds he may have passed his strength and determination to.
Captain Anthony Austin died on 22 August 1708 at Suffield, Hartford County, Connecticut. He was buried at Old Center Cemetery, Suffield, Hartford County, Connecticut; Anthony was laid to rest in the burying ground back of the meeting house on High Street, as was his wife, Esther who died 3/7/1698. Today his gave is beneath the First Congregational Church, which was moved back into the cemetery from the street to make room for the commons.

W A R N I N G : Something is wrong with this record. Either Elizabeth did not die in 1629, or these are not her kids.

I wish we knew more of Elizabeth. She had to be an amazing woman. She must have given them great strength and honor. I wonder if she knew she was raising children that would be the beginning of a line that would have such an impact on this new world. Or did she get her strength from her own family?
