     At age 19, Mahala married Robert Lafayette McDonald , son of Thomas McDonald and Rachel Axley. Robert and Mahala were married on Sunday, 10 April 1864 at Gillespie County, Texas.

     Mrs. Lafe McDonald, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Wylie Joy, who lived on James Peak, was staying with her parents while her husband was away in Old Mexico during the Civil War. Someone had recently returned and brought some letters from Lafe McDonald to his wife and these letters were left at the home of Tom McDonald, who lived on Spring Creek about eight miles east of Harper. Mrs. McDonald was exceedingly anxious to hear from her husband, so she insisted that someone go horseback with her to Tom McDonald's home. They made the trip horseback, and started home early the next morning. Mrs. Wylie Joy and her daughter, Mrs. Lafe McDonald were both killed about one mile east of Harper. Many have surmised that this deed was not done by Indians. Nevertheless, moccasin tracks and other savage signs were discovered shortly afterwards.
     Author personally interviewed: Mrs. Augustus McDonald, a sister-in-law, W. J. Nixon, and one or two others who were living in Gillespie and adjoining counties at the time. Further Ref.: 12. Hunter's Magazine, February 1912, and 1. Frontier Times, June 1927.

FRONTIER TIMES,  June 1927,  Volume 4,  Number 9,  chronicled  recollections of Monroe McDonald  on  page 4,  and  we  quote  in  part:  "Getting together what help we could,  my  father and  I  had  the  bodies  (Elizabeth Frazier Joy and Alwilda Joy McDonald)  taken  down to Spring Creek  and buried.  There is a little graveyard there, and in it we laid them to rest."

     Luther Frank Wilson was born between January 1888 and May 1888 at Prescott, Yavapai County, Arizona.
     Luther married Lily May Larremore , daughter of Lebious P. Thadeous Larremore and Sarah Jane Milne. Luther and Lily were married on Friday, 26 January 1917 at Humboldt, Yavapai County, Arizona. Luther owned the Blue Bell Mine at Mayer and operated a stage line.
     In the book Echoes of the Past, May told the story of her first and only visit to San Francisco on her honey moon with a great deal of amusement. Frank's first love had always been pursuing any leads of interest in mining. Upon depositing his bride in a room at the Palace Hotel, he excused himself to go for a cigar. Many hours later, full of knowledge he had gained from a long conversation with a new-found friend in the mining game, spirits they had imbibed, and smoking a big black cigar, he presented himself to May the next day. All of their forty-six years found them deeply devoted to each other. Many times they spoke of returning for their second honeymoon, but the years went by too quickly for this dream to be fulfilled.
     May and Luther had three daughters: Mrs. Yvonne Howington Morgan, Lorraine (Mrs. Frank) Vallely, and Wyona (Mrs. Kent) Larrell. May was employed by the telephone company in Humboldt, and lived at 107 Grace Avenue. She was a Christian Scientist. Her sister, Mary Elizabeth Lange, and her sister-in-law, Stella Fowler, are also represented in the Rose Garden.
     Luther is shown as a Mine owner on Wyone's birth certificate in 1917. He shows his occupation as "Transportation - Autos" on Yvonne's birth certificate in 1920. And on Lorraine Frances' birth certificate he is shown as a Merchant in Mayer, AZ in 1922.
