     IN 1606, King James I issued a charter authorizing a group of investors to form the Virginia Company of London and settle colonists in North America. (Jamestown, VA) A council appointed by the king was to direct the enterprise from England, with management of day-to-day affairs in the colony entrusted to a second council of state. Robert Offley was one of these investors. As a stockholder, it is believed he spent time there and most likely his children or grandchildren were also there.
     Robert Offley died on 16 May 1625 at St Bennets Grace, Greene County, England, at age 63.
